Mental Health Day...
I let the teenager stay home from school today. There were some vague rumblings about not feeling well this morning and while I am usually a pretty strict mom about things like this (Do you need to go to the emergency room? No? Then go to school!) and I know he was well enough to go to school, he has been doing REALLY well this year. I mean better than he's done since 5th grade and I just thought he could use a break. I know I need a break every once in a while, so why not a 15 year old?
Did your mom ever let you take mental health days or do you or will you allow your children to?

The teacher in me says NO WAY. You will go to school every day unless you are dying. So don't even think about it. But the mom in me figures there will be days and as long as she is doing well in school and she's not missing a test or something really important, then what the hey? I'm sure my mom probably let me do that once in awhile since I always did well in school. But I'm too old to remember...lol.
I used to be really a hard ass about the school thing. I never let them miss. and I do not make a practice of letting them stay home, like it's not an advertised option. Most times I'll say no. But, since he is doing well I see no harm in it. But the teacher in you will hate when I pull them out for 2.5 days to go to Disneyland in November!lol!
Yes, but the Disney lover in ME will say go for it.
I wish sometimes I would have taken a mental health day or two in school. I was just to stubborn to ask to stay home.
One of my friends said her parents had a deal with her: as long as her grades were excellent, school could be considered her job. And having a job entitles you to a sick day or two. When appropriate of course.
What is the matter with you??? Taking them out of school like that???? ;-) Oh yeah, the teachers totally rant about stuff like that with some parents, but with others not so much...lol.
