Standardized Testing
I want to know what bone headed idiot decides what questions to ask on our lovely state standardized tests!. The 5th graders did a sample writing test last week that was so fun and creative. The question was something like this: You have tickets for a train anywhere in the world. Where would you go? SB, who is a wonderful writer, wrote this adorable story about going to Rome and Paris with her best friends. It was so fun.
This week, the kids took the real test. The question? What's your favorite subject in school? What? This is all we can come up with? How much writing are you actually expecting to get from kids when you ask them a question like this? ARGH!

People who write tests are idiots. Number one, they try to trick them; number two, they come up with questions that not even the teachers can figure out the answers to (and this was in 2nd grade); number three, they write questions about the most ridiculous things that kids have no frigging clue about. I never had to administer the AIMS so I can't say much about that one in particular, but in general it's just another reason I loathe standardized tests.
Guess they went really looking for anything very creative. Not much of a sringboard to go on.
