Rite of Passage...

I can vividly remember being in 5th or 6th grade and standing in the lunch line at school. The other girls were making fun of me because my legs were hairy. They had all started shaving already but it hadn't even occurred to me. I went home and asked my mom about it and she said no. She would not let me shave. So I stole her razor and did it anyway. I taught myself how to shave my legs. I don't even know if my mom EVER talked to me about shaving. I did not want any of that experience for my daughter. She's at the point where not a lot of her friends are shaving, but I thought she needed to shave her underarms. She wears a lot of tank tops and it was becoming noticeable. So the two of us spent a long lovely afternoon in the bathroom yesterday teaching her to shave. It was so much fun and such a bonding time. We talked and laughed and had shaving cream all over the place. My daughter has silky smooth legs and a memory of her mom teaching her about being a girl...

How fun :) My mom didn't teach me for the longest time because she said "once you start you have to do it forever"....lol!

I did think about that Karin, but with her dancing and gymnastics and cheer and tanktops I thought it was time. It's a novelty for now. She thinks it's so much fun!lol!

Yeah. My mom didn't "teach" me per se. But mostly cuz i wouldn't let her. I asked her. And she took me out to buy the razor etc. But dat's it. Like i said, my fault.

I had to self teach myself too,but then again I had to teach myself lots of things, like right before I got my first period my Mom brought home a box of maxi pads and told me I was going to need them soon, not much there.

Sarah has been bothered about her hairly legs for awhile now already. I got some Nair for her to use and helped it with it.

I'm glad you taught her. It's bad enough when you have blonde hair and it doesn't show very much, but when you have dark hair and it shows a little more, it can be really embarrassing for a kiddo. So now she is even more beautiful than ever. ;)

Thank you Karin. She's so funny. She has shaved every single day this week. She loves it. We started with an wet/dry shaver thing, battery operated, but do you know she much preferred a regular razor? That's what I shave with but I thought she would be more comfortable with the other...
