Baby, Baby
My new charge starts tomorrow. She's almost 3 months old. I'm tired already! No, I'm actually looking forward to it except the three carseat thing again. I haven't done that in a couple of years.
We went school supply shopping today to avoid the last minute crowds the next two weekends. Ha! I'll just say this, we need more education funding so that parents are not having to spend so much on supplies. We spent over $150 today, and the Princess and the Teenager didn't need much. I worry about parents who might struggle financially more than we do. This was with nothing extra, just the required stuff on the list. Outrageous!

You know, honestly, I didn't understand it when I was teaching and I still do not understand why parents are expected to provide school supplies for their children when it's required by law that they attend school. We didn't have to provide our supplies - so what has changed? Makes absolutely no sense to me. I get the backpack and the lunch box and stuff like that, but pencils and crayons and so forth? Don't get it.
My understanding is that, legally, they can't require the supplies, they are recommended. But, I know at our school it would be a problem if they didn't show up with them and I wouldn't put my kid through that, but it does seem excessive. And my total did not include backpacks or lunchboxes!
