39 and holding!

Today is my 39th birthday. The real thing, not the anniversary of...

It's been 4 days full of celebration. I still love my birthday, even though it's not usually too acceptable with adults. I think we're supposed to act like our birthdays don't matter or that celebrating is only for kids, but what fun is that? I LOVE my birthday! I love celebrating with family and friends!

Thursday was girl's night out with three of my good friends. We went for dinner and then to see The Pajama Game. The advertising for the play suggested going in your pajamas, but we had all agreed ahead of time that we thought that was insane. When they came to pick me up they all had on their bathrobes. They made me put mine on for a group picture. Too funny. After the show they gave me a really fun birthday basket. The contents of which I cannot reveal. But it made me blush. And will be put to good use. So there!

Friday Mark stayed home and I got the day off. I really just hung out at the kids' school for the morning and then went to lunch with some other friends , judged the spelling bee at school, took my kids to the library after school, went to dinner and then came home and played games and watched a movie.

Yesterday we hung out at home getting stuff done and then SB and I went to lunch and shopping, just the two of us. We had so much fun. Then Mark and I went out on a date, which included the movie "The Bucket List". AWESOME movie.

This morning I was serenaded with balloons and flowers and cards and cinnamon sugar bagels and Starbucks. Afterwards we played Dance Dance Revolution and watched football until it was time to meet Mark's family for a birthday dinner. It was a really fun time. Then home for a power nap and off to church where I was serenaded quite loudly. during rehearsal, SB got sick and we ended up having to leave before church even started. She seems better now, although quiet. Hopefully it was just a little thing and she'll be fine tomorrow.

Anyway, it's been a fun weekend. And the party isn't quite over. Next weekend, I get to have dinner with my mom and brother since we couldn't work it out this weekend. I feel happy and loved and content.

Doin' Our Thing

It's a rockin' New Year's Eve over here, as usual!lol! No, we're having fun, as always, with games, games and more games, movies, lots of yummy food, and highly charged children eagerly anticipating midnight. And they are all wide awake. My only bit of sadness is the the teenager is at a party somewhere else, but he's in some one's house, and there for the night. No driving will be happening, so at least I know he's safe. And I'm reasonable sure he'll call us later. Tomorrow is pajama day with more games, more food and a little bit of football and a few minutes of the parade before my kids get bored. They are not big parade watchers!

So, many blessings in the New Year to all of you!

Great Movies!

We've seen two phenomenal movies this week, both more for the thinking set than those just seeking cheap thrills!lol!

We took the kids to see The Waterhorse. I had very little expectation for this movie, as the previews didn't look that great to me, but the two youngest wanted to see it very much. SB was a little put out by the idea of seeing it as well. But?? It may well be the best family movie of the year! Very, very good. I will buy this movie as soon as it comes out. There is some intense action in one part that made the princess hide her eyes, but other than that, it's perfect!

And Mark and I saw The Great Debaters. Oh.My.Gosh. This is my pick for the best overall film of the year, bar none. The acting is superb, the story draws you completely and utterly in. You will laugh and you will most definitely cry. Please go see this movie in the theater. (I will babysit, Karin!)

It's That Time of Year

It's my last day of work for the year! Woohoo! It's also Christmas bonus day which always makes me happy. I have really awesome employers who really let me know how much they appreciate me! Mark has been off since Wednesday trying to use up the vacation he has to use before the end of the year.
Tonight is the kiddos music program, tomorrow the parties, a two day wrestling tournament, and cookie baking and a movie day with my girls while the boys go to a football game. Then it's Christmas Eve and Christmas! I am finished shopping, and have most of the wrapping done, but am just waiting for a couple of things to be delivered.
My days will be hectic, but fun, as I'm sure yours will be. I'm off to enjoy my family and the season.

Merry Christmas!

Martha Stewart's Got Nothing on Me!

Our family craft project for the evening, minus Mark who is working, was helping the teenager create a diorama for his book report. We all joined in making little people and a car... What book, you may ask, did the teenager read? Well, following in his mother's footsteps as far as high school reading material goes..he read Christine. I'll bet Martha never made a diorama of that! Ha!

Short Week!

Well, SB continued our illustrious family tradition at the Turkey Trot on Friday, coming in 4th! She was happy and had a great time!

We had the best weekend. Friday night fun with my friends and the very loud children, Saturday just hanging out and watching my Wildcats beat a top 25 team for the third week in a row! Mark and I had our date night Saturday night. We went to dinner and a movie and a stop at Bath and Body works for some Wickedly Hot Chocolate products. Oh. my. gosh. I smell like a candy bar! Great stuff! Yesterday we played outside with the kiddos and watched some football and went to church and stuff. Very relaxing, lots of fun. Lovely.

This week is going to be wonderful as well. We have normal Monday and Tuesday stuff, but the kids get out early on Wednesday and then we're going to a huge (80-100 people) party at a friends house. They raise turkeys and have a huge turkey butcher party on the day before Thanksgiving. We're not taking a turkey, but the kids are really excited for the party. This family has 4 kids and lots of land so we have a great time out there.

Hope you all had a lovely weekend and have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

Good Day!

Yesterday was a great day. After walking with my friend, I ran home to pick up the cameras and headed to The Princess' school for her Thanksgiving program. She sang her little heart out and it was adorable! We didn't stay for lunch, but rushed over to FE's school for the annual Turkey Trot. The kids make banners in their classrooms and then have a banner parade around the big field. After that, they are separated by grade and gender and then they race. FE came in 3rd place out of the 2nd grade boys. He was soooo excited. So was I. 1st-3rd places get a medal and he was so proud of that. When the teenager was in 7th grade he came in 2nd place, but other than that? Every single year, every single one of my kids comes in 4th. It's become a running joke! SB runs today and I told her she better aim for 4th since FE's already ruined our tradition!

After FE was done running we took him out of school and went to lunch with my mom who was also there for the race. It was a great afternoon.

Today did not start out so well as my battery was dead this morning. Mark stayed home and got things taken care of while I took the kiddos to school. Now I'm trying to get the house cleaned so Karin and Rochelle and LG can come over and scrapbook tonight. I only have a couple of hours until SB runs though, so I'm off.

Have a great weekend!!
